ORIGIN OF FRESH ANEMONES
The cradle of the anemone was in Southern Europe and Asia. There are several stories about the name of the anemone. The genus name Anemone is derived from the Greek word 'anemos', which means wind. The seed is fluffy and is spread by the wind. Another theory also goes back to antiquity. Anemona was a nymph in the court of the goddess Flora. According to the saga, Floras Zephyr, the god of the wind, fell in love with Anemona whereupon the jealous goddess turned her into a flower. According to other sources, the name Anemone goes back to the Greek and Latin corruption of the Semitic name of Adonis, from whose blood the anemone species in the Middle East is said to have sprung.
