Anthurium, exotic beauty with a long breath. In addition to a high bling-bling content, this flower has another asset: it has the longest shelf life of all cut flowers.
COLORS AND SHAPES
Did you know that the flower of the anthurium is the spike (that 'finger' sticking out of the bract) and not the brightly colored bract? That bract is available in shiny white, red, pink, purple, orange, green and in several colors per leaf.
SYMBOLISM
Given its appearance and origin, the anthurium is a symbol of exotic beauty. The name Anthurium is derived from the Greek words 'anthos' and 'oura' meaning 'flower' and 'tail'. So very appropriate.
ORIGIN
The anthurium is native to Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. In 1876, the French botanist Eduard André discovered the flower in Colombia and Ecuador. A busy bee that gentleman, because he also discovered orchids, bromeliads and various arums. He then took them all back to Europe. Thanks Edward!
