COLORS AND SHAPES
You can recognize the Cymbidium by the long branch and the flower mullein with red, purple, pink, orange, yellow, green or two-coloured flowers. Each flower has a hollow, arc-shaped lip that resembles a boat. 'Kymbos' is Greek for boat and that is where the name Cymbidium comes from.
SYMBOLISM
In China, the Cymbidium is a gift for friends. The flower symbolizes a valued and respected friendship.
ORIGIN
When you think of orchids, you quickly think of tropical living conditions, but the Cymbidium is not a tropical type. It is used to survive on the southern slopes of the Himalayas. Even on that rocky, nutrient-poor soil, on cold nights and in bright light, it is able to bloom its mysterious, elegant flowers. So a real survivor.
