Anigozanthos, a stubborn appearance from "Down Under". Velvety but tough, that's how you can sum up the Anigozanthos. Get to know a unique flower and its special nickname.

COLORS AND SHAPES
The shape of the Anigozanthos is a bit stubborn and tough. The flower does not have to rely on profuse blooming flowers or sweet perfume. No, Anigozanthos does it differently. It has branched stems without leaves, from which small tubes grow. They have small hairs and are pink, yellow, red or orange. A greenish-yellow flower with six petals then grows from the end of the tubes. In Australia, the flower is also called Kangaroo paw because of its resemblance to a kangaroo paw.

SYMBOLISM
In the name Anigozanthos, the Greek words anises (unequal) and anthos (flower) come together. A reference to the shape of the flowers. The Anigozanthos symbolizes individuality and is the flower emblem of Western Australia.

ORIGIN
The flower mainly grows in southwestern Australia, in a very dry area. In the early nineteenth century the Anigozanthos traveled in seed form by boat to France. The plants were grown in Empress Joséphine's famous greenhouses and garden, after which it was discovered that the Anigozanthos also works well as a cut flower.
